New table members will need guidance and assistance to help them become effective members of your nonprofit. They should understand the mission and vision, your organization’s daily activities, their operations and procedures. In addition they need to know ways to communicate with different board affiliates and staff, and participate in panel discussions.
Generate a new member positioning program just before a new member can be appointed to the board. It could be as simple as a video or maybe a one-on-one interview, but you should certainly provide them with a thorough overview of the nonprofit as well as the board’s duties.
Meet with the modern member JUST BEFORE their first board achieving – Go to lunch or another social gathering and speak about how the gatherings can flow and any other issues that are next specific to your board’s tradition and procedures. It will help all of them feel comfortable and assured with your mother board before they even sit at the stand.
